Easements, like the one for a Public Promenade on the Memphis riverfront, have played a major role in the success story of conserving and protecting the Wolf.

Watch the PBS interview by Eric Barnes with Erik Houston, Jeanne Arthur, and Keith Cole that tells their story, the impact and growth starting the local greenway movement, and the role of the Wolf River Conservancy as a land trust today.

Founded in 1985, the Wolf River Conservancy worked to rescue the Wolf River and its watershed and to protect it as a sustainable natural resource. Friends for Our Riverfront is particularly proud of the role our board member, Jeanne Arthur, played in the story. A staunch conservationist, she recognized the value of the waterway, envisioned what it could become, and has consistently worked to make it a reality, serving on the Board of the Conservancy and as president in 2016. Thank you, Jeanne!

The land trust currently protects more than 20,000 acres along the river and its tributaries and organizes and promotes educational and recreational activities.
